Please bookmark this page.  It is a work in progress.  The calendar will be kept up-to-date beginning with November 1, 2013.  All county schools can be access by clicking on Schools at the top.

The calendar is awesome!  Each school has a category.  You can choose which schools you want to have show up on your computer and not have to see everyone!  Just go to Options and then Filter Events.

The Pierpont Center at MTEC officially opened with a ribbon cutting conducted last Sunday afternoon in conjunction with MTEC’s Third Annual Open house and Car Show. Among Pierpont Community and Technical College and MCS officials wielding scissors to mark the $500,000 project’s opening were Earl McConnell, Pierpont Board of Governors chair; Jessica Sell, representing U.S. Senator Joe Manchin III; Senator Roman Prezioso; Dr. Doreen Larson, Pierpont president; Dr. Barbara Parsons, Mon County Board of Education president; and MCS Superintendent Dr. Frank Devono.  Touring the facility following the ceremony, Dr. Parsons received a hug from “Monty,” the Pierpont mascot, in the center’s vestibule. MCS Maintenance staff completed much of the work on the seven-classroom structure over the summer.

The Cee-Bees will dedicate the recently-completed Clay-Battelle Athletic Field just prior to kick-off of their first home football game of the 2013 season 7:05 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13. The $2.1 million facility features an artificial turf playing field; rubberized six-lane track; new lighting, scoreboard and electronic timing device for track events; and stadium seating for 2,028 spectators. According to C-B Principal David Cottrell, funding for the project originated with several sources, including the Mon County BOE, the Hazel Ruby McQuain Charitable Trust and the “sweat equity” of C-B supporters. A 5:45 p.m. reception will precede the formal dedication.

Look for your copy of the MCS 2013-2014 Events Calendar, due for delivery to the schools in mid-September. Published and distributed with assistance from United Bank, this year’s calendar features full-color artwork created by students from several county schools and selected by a team of MCS art teachers. Its cover features North Elementary’s “Singing Tree," which is displayed on the walls of the school’s vestibule and cafeteria. Bearing student artwork depicting leaves indigenous to over 50 nations across the globe, “The mural represents North’s international diversity, as well as the respect our students have for the differences between them,” according to North art teacher Sonda Cheesebrough. The calendar also will be mailed to all students’ home addresses, courtesy of United Bank.

Skyview Elementary and its Partners in Education were the big winners at the MCS Partnership in Education Awards and Recognition breakfast June 26 at Erickson Alumni Center, leaving the event with a $1,000 prize – underwritten by MedExpress Urgent Care – for their Gold Star Partnership activities during the 2012-2013 school year. Silver Star Partnership awards of $500 each – sponsored by Chesapeake Energy & United Bank – were granted to Clay Battelle Middle/High and Mylan Park Elementary and their schools’ partners. Five school partnerships received Bronze Star recognition and $200 cash prizes sponsored by Walmart: Brookhaven Elementary; Eastwood Elementary; Suncrest Middle; Suncrest Primary; and Trinity Christian. Honorable Mention awards of $100 each – new this year and sponsored by Morgantown Surgical Associates – were earned by Cheat Lake Elementary, North Elementary and South Middle and their partners. Although a date hasn’t yet been set for the 2014 Partnership awards breakfast, the event will be held at Eastwood Elementary and will have, appropriately enough, a “green theme.”
